In the coming weeks and months you’ll start hearing about a new way of talking about your your somed (aka social media) effectiveness – a term coined by Twitter called your Resonance Score.
I like it, it makes sense. Think of a pond ripple; when you tweet something, or post something on your blog, how much reverberation do you get from it? This is measured in a few key ways:
- @s (someone references you on Twitter)
- RTs – Re-Tweets
- clicks
- # – hashtags referencing your topic, or mentions of a hashtag you created for your post
Also, outside of twitter, your Resonance can be measured by:
- comments to a blog post
- pings and references to something you mentioned in a post
- comments on your Facebook or other Somed links to your content
This isn’t anything new, if you’re up on your somed game, you’re already watching these factors and should be looking for ways to increase them. If you are tweeting or blogging endlessly and not seeing any response you should probably consider making some changes.
- Who’s following you and why?
- Are your topics valuable to your audience?
- Are you maintaining a positive ratio of value vs. promotion in your posts and tweets?
- Are you engaging in conversations?
- Are you creating ways for people to interact.. contests, questions, polls?
And some questions specific to your blog
- Are you paying attention to your post titles.. key words, buzz words, SEO?
- Are you marketing that you exist through other channels? (there are millions of trees in the forest)
- Are you offering incentives and easy ways to follow you? (RSS, Email)
- Have you tied in your blog with your other Somed profiles on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Etc? There are plenty of plugins and tools that will automatically broadcast your posts across your various networks.
What is your Resonance Score?
