In It Together, In Person: Briteweb Retreat 2022

The Briteweb Annual retreat has been on hold since 2019, and our team was eagerly anticipating its return. In alignment with our Reconciliation Action Plan, we sought to host this year’s retreat at an Indigenous-owned property, and after several months of research, we made our selection. 

Arriving from 3 different provinces, on September 20th, Briteweb’s full-time team touched down in Cranbrook, British Columbia, within the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation. We spent the next 4 days learning, laughing, growing, and collaborating, at St. Eugene Resort. The Ktunaxa Nation reclaimed the former residential school into a full-service resort with educational and restorative purposes.

We were privileged enough to learn from residential school survivor Isaac, and take part in a tipi-raising activity.
Our team explored the Kootenay Rockies, hiking and walking in the local area. We dined in local restaurants, enjoying wood-fire pizzas and rooftop views. We heard in circles the stories of Elaine Alec and were deeply impacted by her strength and resilience.

While we navigate a remote-first world and return to our screens, it is clear that the friendships and connections made over those 4 days have positively impacted the way we work together. Most significantly, colleagues became friends, and discussions became connections, as we reiterated to each other, that together, we can do a world of good.
